The North Drop and the Anegada flats
Big-game boats from Tortola and Virgin Gorda run north to the North Drop, the edge of the shelf north of the islands, for blue marlin, wahoo, yellowfin tuna and mahi-mahi. Summer around the full moon is prime blue marlin time. Closer in, the reefs and rocks around the Dogs, the Tobagos and Necker hold snappers, jacks and barracuda. Anegada is a different world: a flat coral island ringed by miles of sand and grass flats, known for bonefish, permit and tarpon.
Many bays and reefs in the BVI are marine parks or fisheries protected areas where fishing is not allowed. They are shown in red on the map, and visiting boats need a BVI recreational fishing permit.
