Parks & rules

Data rule: Each lake star is the OpenStreetMap center of the named lake; these are general positions, not pinpoints, and each star says so. Boat ramps and marinas come from OpenStreetMap, and the parks and refuges come from the World Database on Protected Areas, shown in dashed red. Every star shows its source when you tap it. BigJoe does not invent coordinates. The exact sources used on this map are listed under Map sources & checks below.

Trophy bass country

Florida is famous for big largemouth bass. Lake Okeechobee, Lake Toho, Lake Kissimmee, Istokpoga and Rodman produce 10-pound bass every year, mostly in winter and spring around the grass, reeds and hydrilla.

Crappie (Floridians call them specks) bite best in winter, bluegill and shellcracker in spring, and South Florida's canals add peacock bass, clown knifefish and other exotics found nowhere else in the U.S.

Rules: you need a Florida freshwater fishing license unless you're exempt. The black bass limit is 5 per day, with only one 16 inches or longer. Alligators live in nearly every lake and canal, so keep your distance.
