Black bass, barramundi and GTs at the edge of the Coral Triangle
Papua New Guinea is famous for the hard-fighting Papuan black bass and big barramundi in its jungle rivers, and for giant trevally and dogtooth tuna on the reefs of New Ireland, Milne Bay and the Solomon Islands. Much of it is remote, so most fishing is done through lodges and local guides.
Rules: nearly all reefs, rivers and islands here are owned by local clans and villages. Always ask the landowners (or go with a guide who has), respect village no-take areas, and fish with licensed operators.
On the bay, in the mangroves or on the ocean, the everyday struggles get left at the dock. For those few hours, it's just you, the water and peace.
