Parks & rules

Data rule: Islands, cays, bays and boat landings come from OpenStreetMap. Marine parks come from the World Database on Protected Areas. Fishing spots are only placed on mapped named places, and never inside or next to a national park. BigJoe does not invent coordinates. The exact sources used on this map are listed under Map sources & checks below.

Deep channels, offshore islands and village fishing

Haiti has deep water close to shore on most of its coast. The Windward Passage and the Canal de la Tortue run deep right next to the north coast, and the Gulf of Gonâve is ringed by deep channels around Île de la Gonâve and the Arcadins cays, with jacks, snappers, kingfish and mahi-mahi. In the southwest, the Cayemites, Île-à-Vache and the reefs off Les Cayes and Aquin are fished every day from small boats out of the coastal villages, mostly for snappers, groupers, grunts and pelagics on fish aggregating devices (FADs).

Les Trois Baies, Lagon des Huîtres and Fort Royal are national parks, so they show in red on the map and BigJoe does not put fishing spots in them. Haiti has very few marinas or public ramps, so most fishing is done with local fishermen. Check current travel advisories before you go.
